Community Life

The photo to the right is of the Johnson House volunteers at Natural Bridge (minus Sam who was rock climbing). From left to right, Nate, Kathy,  Carolyn, myself, and Alex. I am so blessed to have these people in my life. When this photo was taken, I had just climbed two mountains; a physical one, and one within myself. The day before we went hiking, I found out that a friend from back home committed suicide. From the exact moment that I found out about this tragedy, my housemates were there for me 100%. Whether it was talking to me, praying with me, or just giving me a good, long hug. They were all extremely supportive. I may not be living with my parents and siblings back in Ohio, but I’ve made a whole new family here in these mountains of Eastern Kentucky.

Savannah is a long-term volunteer and AmeriCorps member. She is serving at one of our summer camps, Camp Shawnee. To learn more about our volunteer opportunities email volunteer@chrisapp.org.
