Group Size

  • Maximum of 10 people (students and leaders).

Transportation

  • Groups provide their own transportation to Kentucky.
  • Transportation must be in the form of a van(s), either owned by the college or rented.
  • Groups must make vans available as transportation to and from job sites Monday through Thursday.
  • Your school must be able to transport students from other colleges in your college owned or rented vehicle(s). Your students must be able to ride in college owned or rented vehicle(s) from other participating colleges.

*If CAP’s transportation requirements will prevent your students from participating in our program, please contact us to discuss alternatives. *

Registration Fee

Because of the high number of colleges interested in WorkFest, pre-registration is necessary.  A $200.00 non-refundable registration fee is required.  Please note that the registration fee will not be deducted from the final cost, but is in addition to the participation fee of $225 per person.

Costs

  • The cost for participating in WorkFest is $225 per person.
  • $225 covers expenses for facilities, three meals/day, entertainment and helps pay for job materials.

*Payment is due prior to your group’s scheduled arrival.*

Accommodations

  • Accommodations are arranged and provided by CAP Sunday evening through Friday morning.
  • Students and college leaders stay in single-sex camp dorms or cabins.
  • Showers available.

Spirituality

  • CAP is a Christian organization and expects all volunteers to respect our guidelines.
  • All group members must be present at scheduled daily devotions.
  • All school groups will lead at least one devotion during the week.

Arrival

  • Participating college groups must arrive between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday of the week spring break is scheduled. Inclement weather, such as snow or heavy rain would be the only exception for late arrival.

Orientation

  • All students and leaders must participate in WorkFest orientation. Orientation will be held on Sunday evening, approximately 6:30–9:00pm.

Departure

  • Participating college groups must stay until the closing program is complete on Friday morning at approximately 10:00 a.m.
  • Groups must leave following closing on Friday, as the facilities need to be cleaned and prepared for the following week.

Student Information

  • In order to provide appropriate accommodations, meals, and crew assignments for our projects, an official list of participating students names and other paperwork is due 18 days in advance of your scheduled arrival. Any paperwork that is due back to CAP must be mailed into us in its entirety by the due date for your spring break week as indicated on the WorkFest Registration form. Failure to return paperwork by the assigned date may jeopardize your group’s opportunity to participate in future WorkFests.
  • Once the paperwork is received, a refund will NOT be issued for any person(s) who drops out of the program.  Student substitutions are discouraged unless an emergency occurs that prohibits an individual from attending.  All student substitutions are required to have all necessary paperwork sent to CAP prior to arrival.

Group Leader(s)

  • Prior to your arrival at CAP, each college assigned leader(s) is responsible for scheduling regular team meetings to educate all participating students about WorkFest.  This can be achieved by reviewing materials provided through this office, as well as this website. To enhance your knowledge of the Appalachian region, additional research on historical, cultural and economic issues is encouraged.
  • Upon arrival, each college assigned leader(s) is responsible for assisting CAP’s staff wherever needed (i.e. helping keep students on daily/evening schedules, leading devotions, daily cleaning assignments, daily lunch preparation, completing weekly service hours sheet and evaluations and other un-determined tasks).
