Our Values

For Christian Appalachian Project volunteers, serving is not just about giving of their time and receiving room and board in exchange, it is about making a total commitment to the values of service, intentional community and spirituality and living those values with a diverse faith community. If our values resonate with you, the CAP Volunteer Program may be a great match.

Service
CAP volunteers serve in various CAP and local programs that benefit low-income families, children, the elderly and persons with disabilities. We are committed to serving those on the margins of society in eastern Kentucky, which has some of the highest poverty rates in the United States.

Community
Whether a volunteer lives in one of CAP’s volunteer houses, at a camp, a group facility or independently, each volunteer makes a commitment to community life by sharing in the joys, challenges and growth that comes with being a group, summer camp, short-term or long-term CAP volunteer. Living in community isn’t about sharing a house–it’s about sharing an experience.

Spirituality
CAP is an interdenominational organization that encourages people to share their faith and express it through their actions. Personal spiritual growth is an integral part of the CAP volunteer experience, and to foster a spiritual environment, volunteers gather for prayer and reflection after weekday dinners.
