Educational and Recreational Programming
Volunteers in Educational and Recreational Programming engage children and teens in rural eastern Kentucky through classroom teaching, after-school programming, teen retreats, community events and summer camps.
In cooperation with the staff at Camp Andrew Jackson and Camp Shawnee, some volunteers may assist in the development and implementation of in-school presentations for second through twelfth grade public school students. Topics include anger management, consumerism, character education and environmental stewardship.
If needed by the local school system, volunteers may assist in academic subject curriculum planning. Volunteers may also serve in the local Lord’s Gym, planning and implementing afterschool programming for youth. Volunteers may spearhead two teen retreats per year and various community events. When summer camp is in session, these volunteers serve as camp counselors.
