Educational and Recreational Programming

Now accepting applications for long-term volunteers to begin August 2012.

Better known as the “camp volunteers,” volunteers in Educational and Recreational Programming engage children and teens in rural eastern Kentucky through classroom teaching, after-school programming, teen retreats, community events and summer camps.

In cooperation with the staff at CAP’s Camp Andrew Jackson and Camp Shawnee, volunteers assist in the development and implementation of in-school presentations for second through twelfth grade public school students. Topics include anger management, consumerism, character education and environmental stewardship.

If needed by the local school system, volunteers may assist in academic subject curriculum planning and teaching. Volunteers may also serve in the local Lord’s Gym, planning and implementing after-school programming for youth. Volunteers may spearhead two teen retreats per year and various community events. When summer camp is in session, these volunteers serve as camp counselors.
