Housing

“The days are sometimes long, I get ridiculously sweaty. I consistently get cuts and bruises, and yet I’m so blissfully happy about my time here in Housing. The people in eastern Kentucky will always hold a special place in my heart, and I am forever grateful for them. I can guarantee that volunteering here will somehow, in big or small ways, be able to impact you forever.”

–Housing volunteer

Now accepting applications for long-term and short-term volunteers.

Inadequate and unsafe housing affects the young and elderly alike in Appalachia. Christian Appalachian Project’s Housing program assists families in need by providing housing materials, repairs on existing homes or new home construction. The goal of the Housing program is to help all the families they serve have homes that are warm, safe and dry. Home and property owners are encouraged to participate in the repairs or provide other forms of sweat equity.

The Housing program is staffed largely by CAP long-term, short-term and group volunteers. Volunteers assist the employee crew leader in repairing homes, performing new home construction, or at times, constructing new CAP facilities. Volunteers must be able to serve on roofs and in all seasons, and will often lead volunteer groups. No prior experience is necessary for most volunteers, although we do have a need for skilled short-term volunteers to lead crews of college students for our WorkFest program in March.
