Christian Appalachian Project welcomes long-term (one year) volunteers in January, June, August, and October. Our preference is for volunteers to begin in August or January, but we also offer admission in October and June.
Applications for long-term service are accepted according to the timeline below, with on-site interviews conducted during designated interview periods. We encourage applicants to apply early enough so that if selected to interview they would have ample time to make travel arrangements to Kentucky. We strongly recommend the on-site interview, as having the opportunity to share in dinner and devotion in a volunteer community, meet various program managers, and possibly spend some time serving in a program will greatly aid in the discernment process. If an on-site interview is not possible, interviews can be conducted by Skype at any time during the admissions process.

Application Process
Although late applications will be considered, interested candidates are strongly encouraged to submit their completed application (including application form, three references, and essay) on or before the priority application date to receive top consideration for interviews and potential service placement. Candidates will be notified no later than two weeks after the receipt of their completed application if they will be invited for an interview. Interviews are available in one of two formats.
Option One (preferred): On-site interview
On-site interviews are 1-3 days long and consist of at least one dinner and devotion in a CAP Volunteer Community, an interview with the Admissions Coordinator, and interviews with 2-3 program managers. Whenever possible, applicants will spend part of their visit serving in a program or shadowing a current volunteer.
Option Two: Skype interviews
Applicants interview with Admissions Coordinator, then with 2-3 program managers. This interview option typically takes place over the course of 1-3 weeks. Skype interviews may take place at any time after we have reviewed your completed application.
After their final interview, candidates will receive a feedback survey to complete. Once the survey has been submitted, the candidate will be notified within two weeks whether they will be offered a placement.
For your application to be reviewed all items must be received by the Admissions Coordinator. It is the applicant’s responsibility to follow up with the individuals providing references to make sure those forms have been submitted to CAP. If you have questions about the status of any component, you can call the Admissions Coordinator at 1-800-755-5322 at any point for an update. Again, your application cannot be reviewed or considered for an interview until the application form, three references and personal essay are received.
