Be Your Best Self!

Christian Appalachian Project recently received the opportunity to partner with Distinguished Young Women — a scholarship, leadership, and talent program geared toward young women in the community, encouraging each of them to “Be Your Best Self.”
Distinguished Young Women of Kentucky offers female high school students the chance to win college scholarships, as well as participate in life skills training to prepare them for life after high school.

Recently, the group spent a day at CAP, helping prepare goody bags for our Women’s Retreat, an annual event held for our participants at Camp AJ. Each of them brought a journal and their favorite color nail polish to contribute to the bags. Each of the young ladies wrote inspirational words of encouragement for CAP’s participants on note cards that were place inside the journals.

During the visit, Liz Phelps, director of CAP’s Camp AJ and organizer of the Women’s Retreat, got a chance to speak to the group about the Women’s Retreat and how important it is to our participants.Every year, over 45 women join together to enjoy community living and spiritual growth. Each day starts with an hour of devotion, followed by afternoon seminars, and then evenings filled with worship and campfires.
At the end of the Women’s Retreat, participants will receive the goody bags that were packed with love by the Distinguished Young Women.
