Want to make a difference in a child's life this summer? Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) needs AmeriCorps members to serve as camp counselors, lifeguards, arts & crafts instructors, and medical personnel this June and July at our summer camps. AmeriCorps members make a commitment of 7-8 weeks (including the June 5-9 orientation week) and receive travel reimbursement (up to $400), room and board, and an Education Award of $1,253 for use toward qualifying student loans or other education expenses. The 2018 camp season is June 5-July 27.
CAP Summer Camps
Our two Summer Camps serve more than 1,000 children each summer, most of whom come from low-income families. We charge just $20/child and no child is turned away due to a family's inability to pay. Our goal is to provide a high-quality camp experience that every family can afford. At camp children and teens ages 7-15 participate in various recreational, educational, and leadership activities, including swimming, hiking, fishing, camping, field games, low ropes, and much more. We welcome a new group of campers each Monday and they depart on Friday.
What you'll do
Our AmeriCorps members and volunteers make camp possible by serving as camp counselors, lifeguards, arts & crafts instructors, and medical personnel. We're looking for people with high energy and a love for children. Nurses must be licensed in Kentucky or a state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact.
How to apply
Apply by April 20 at either the CAP website or through AmeriCorps. Can't commit to the whole summer? We also have volunteer opportunities at camp. We ask a minimum commitment of one week for medical personnel and three weeks for all other positions.
