Urgent Volunteer Needs: Construction and Cooking

Submitted by aschill on Thu, 12/21/2017

In March and April, hundreds of college and high school students spend their spring break helping Christian Appalachian Project make homes warm, safe, dry, and accessible for low-income families, the elderly, and persons wth disabilities. Last year, more than 600 volunteers repaired more than 50 homes.

Between March 25 and April 13, we have a critical need for skilled volunteers who can lead our unskiled high school students on the jobsite. We also need volunteers who can help to feed those hungry students when they return in the evening. Construction work may include building handicap ramps and decks, installing insulation, windows, doors, siding, and underpinning, and repairing floors and walls. New construction leaders are typically paired with a veteran volunteer. Volunteer cooks serve on a team that will prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner for up to 100 people each day.
