Hunger and Poverty Rob Appalachians of Their Future

It’s hard to finish school, stay employed, or make a better life for your children when each day is filled with worry about how to survive. Help stop this cycle of desperation through our Grateful Bread Food PantryOperation Sharing, and other vital services and programs that transform lives in Appalachia.

Grateful Bread Food Pantry

Many families are unable to afford the most basic groceries and often must choose between purchasing food and providing safe, warm, dry, and accessible homes or health care for their families. Grateful Bread provides free and nutritious food to eligible families in Rockcastle County each month.

Operation Sharing

More than 1,200 nonprofit organizations, community-based agencies, and churches throughout the region partner with CAP each year to collect food, household supplies, and more for families in Appalachia in need. Operation Sharing has delivered more than $1.5 billion of donated materials to more than 1.5 million people across all 13 Appalachian states, Arkansas, and Missouri in 30 years. Call 606.523.5799 for the Corbin location or 606.789.3148 for the Paintsville location to get involved.

Christmas Baskets

Share in the joy of Christmas with families in need in Appalachia by sending toys, clothing, and other Christmas gifts. During the weeks leading up to Christmas, participant families gather together for a celebration consisting of prayers, a retelling of the Christmas story, and distribution of donated gifts.

“I never thought I would be on the receiving end. I don’t know what we would do if it weren’t for CAP. I’m grateful.”

— Bessie McDaniel
