Every year the excitement of summer fills the air. What better way to end a fabulous school year than a field trip to the zoo? Our Family Life and Child Development Center in the Cumberland Valley area makes sure at the end of every school year their students get to have a fun filled day, and this past year they decided to visit the Louisville Zoo.
Taking 34 children almost 2 hours away from home on a day trip is not an easy feat. In order to have enough chaperons, each child brings one parent along on the trip, and all nine staff members attend as well.
This year held extra special meaning for Director Sharon Goff. One of the students did not get to attend the field trip last year because her grandparents are both disabled and could not attend as her chaperon. “This is her last year with us and she was going on this field trip no matter what,” said Sharon. She stepped in as chaperon and made sure the child got to go and have fun with her classmates and celebrate the rite of passage into kindergarten.
So they loaded everyone up in the CAP school buses and headed out for their all day adventure. When they arrived, parents and children branched off to sight see. They met back with the group twice, sitting together for the Penguin Show and Bird Exhibition.
Moving from pre-school to kindergarten is such a milestone for children. Ending their school year with a fun experience like this and having their parent along with them is part of what CAP really tries to do to enhance the family’s lives and their relationships with their children. This is a memory they can share for a lifetime.
