A Visit to the CAP Christmas Store

Submitted by CAP Volunteer on Wed, 12/16/2015

For many years our Family Advocacy program has held a Christmas basket distribution where families in need receive Christmas gifts provided by generous donors.  Recently some counties have begun implementing a new Christmas store program.  To be a part of the Christmas store a family must be below a certain income level and complete an application.

After submitting their application families must attend educational classes or perform volunteer hours to fulfill the self-help requirement of the program.  Families are then invited to attend a Christmas worship service and shop at the Christmas store. All of the items in the store are provided by generous donors and are given to the families at no cost.  Through the store approach each family has the ability to have a shopping experience as they peruse the store and pick out a certain number of gifts for each member of the household.

Families are also provided with a bag of hygiene items and a holiday ham.  These Christmas programs are a result of tireless effort on the part of CAP staff and volunteers along with the support of our donors.  Check out the photos below of one of our Christmas stores and contact us if you'd like to be a part of our Christmas efforts for 2016.
