Class of 2012: A few of our incoming volunteers

Submitted by CAP Volunteer on Mon, 06/18/2012

Colleges and high schools across the country have recently minted new graduates. While most are continuing their education or job searching, thousands of  new graduates take the road less traveled to post-graduate service. Below are a few of the nine and counting members of the Class of 2012 whom Christian Appalachian Project will be welcoming as volunteers this summer and fall. As we continue to accept and review applications, our list will grow. Congratulations to the Class of 2012, and thank you for your commitment to our core values of Service, Community, and Spirituality.

Katherine Biegner
Kate recently earned her degree in Psychology from Assumption College in Massachusetts, her home state. In August, Kate will begin a year of service with Eagle Child and Family Development Center and join the McCreary Volunteer Community. "I want to experience a new part of the country and challenge myself to explore what it means to practice the Christian way of living," Kate says. "I've gone to Catholic school my whole life, and the fact that CAP is a kind of multi-denominational, ecumenical approach is appealing. I'm hoping to open up my own faith life, learn about different approaches, and understand how we all can work better together to fight poverty and isolation."

Christine Bieniosek
Christine will be arriving in August from Litchfield, Ohio. A graduate of Hiram College with a degree in Accounting and Financial Management, Christine will join the Jackson Volunteer Community and serve in Elderly Services. She heard about CAP from Catholic Volunteer Network.

Erin Graham
Also arriving in August, Erin will serve in the Family Life and Child and Family Development Center and will join the Mt. Vernon Volunteer Community. She recently earned her degree in Early Childhood Studies from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.  "I am hoping to learn more about God, and his heart for poverty and justice through serving with CAP," Erin says.  She was attracted to CAP in part because of the emphasis on community living.

Kirby Grein
Kirby just graduated from Bellarmine University with a degree in Psychology. From Cincinnati, Kirby served with CAP three times through Bellarmine's alternative spring break program. She looks forward to serving with Family Advocacy and joining the Mt. Vernon Volunteer Community. "I enjoy helping others and want to grow deeper in my faith," Kirby says. "CAP stood out because its volunteers served in community in a rural part of the country that doesn't get much attention." Kirby will join us in July.

Christina Liggett
Christina will join us from Hamilton, Ohio, in August, fresh off of earning her degree in Psychology from Miami University of Ohio. Christina will join the Jackson Volunteer Community and serve in Elderly Services. She learned of CAP through an internet search.

Lauren Montanaro
Lauren first came to CAP for WorkFest (CAP's alternative spring break program) 2011, and then served with us as a short-term volunteer that summer. Lauren will return in July as a long-term volunteer advocating for domestic violence survivors. She will be a member of the Mt. Vernon Volunteer Community. Lauren is from Rhode Island and recently graduated from American University, majoring in Law and Society.
