Christian Appalachian Project congratulates all recent college graduates on an impressive achievement. We especially wish to congratulate the 13 and counting recent grads who have joined us or will be joining us as long-term volunteers this summer and fall. Take a moment to meet some of our volunteers from the Class of 2011:
Leah Coughlan
We love Stonehill College grads at CAP, and we're glad to welcome Leah, our fourth Stonehill grad in the past three years. Leah found out about CAP through Catholic Volunteer Network and a friend, Jessica Wirth, who volunteered with CAP last year. She will be serving in Family Advocacy and living in Jackson Volunteer House beginning in August. Leah is from Massachusetts.
Erin Cusick
Erin, originally from Ohio, is trading in the big city of Chicago (where she studied Psychology and English at Loyola University) for the bucolic hills of Jackson County. Erin will serve one year at Camp Andrew Jackson and live in Jackson Volunteer House. She found out about CAP through Catholic Volunteer Network.
Kelsey DeVesty
Kelsey heads to Johnson Volunteer House in August when she will join CAP's Housing program for a year. She received her Bachelor's in Business Administration in May from James Madison University. Kelsey is from New Jersey and found out about CAP through Catholic Volunteer Network.
Chris Giorlando
Chris is a Staten Island native and a recent graduate of St. Peter's College in New Jersey. He had participated in three WorkFests before joining CAP as a long-term volunteer in July. Chris lives in Magoffin Volunteer House and serves in the Elderly Housing program.
Colleen Greene
Colleen just graduated from Loras College in Iowa, but originally hails from Modesto, California. Colleen found out about CAP somewhat accidentally--she volunteered with her college at St. Paul Catholic Mission in McKee, Kentucky, where a former CAP volunteer was the pastoral associate. After learning more about CAP and submitting an application, she decided on a year of service with one of CAP's domestic violence shelters. Colleen will begin her service in September and live in Rockcastle Volunteer House.
Whitney Helton
Whitney will be joining the Mt. Vernon Volunteer House family in August when she begins her service at the Family Life Child and Family Development Center. Whitney heard about CAP from a former short-term volunteer last summer before entering her senior year at Hanover College. The Indiana native now has her degree and is ready to make a difference in the lives of preschoolers in Rockcastle County.
Jimmy Owsley
Jimmy recently earned his degree in Philosophy from the University of Nevada, Reno. He learned about CAP from the Catholic Volunteer Network website and was drawn to several programs, but eventually found the best fit teaching GED classes in West Virginia with one of CAP's partner agencies. Jimmy will begin his service in August and live at Floyd Volunteer House.
Lisa Pade
Lisa, from the great state of Wisconsin, joined CAP shortly after her graduation from UW-Madison. She has a degree in Psychology and serves as a caseworker in Elderly Services. She lives in Jackson Volunteer House.
Kate Turner
This recent MIT grad will join CAP's Housing program in September. Kate, who earned her degree in Civil Engineering, is originally from Maine, but will soon call McCreary Volunteer House home. She learned about CAP through Catholic Volunteer Network and a family friend.
Eric Wenning
Eric participated in WorkFest 2011 and fell in love with CAP and the people of Appalachia. He recently earned his degree in digital media from Rhodes State College in Ohio, his home state. Eric will join the Martin Child and Family Development Center in August and live in Floyd Volunteer House.
Olga Zeglinska
Olga is a "WorkFest baby," having been to CAP's alternative college spring break program twice before taking the plunge into long-term service. Originally from the Chicago area, Olga earned her degree in Psychology from the University of Chicago in June. Olga will volunteer at Eagle Child and Family Development Center and live in McCreary Volunteer House beginning in July.
