With the new year upon us, you may have resolved to find new ways to share Christ’s love in our world. Whether you have a week, a month, or a year, CAP has a place for changemakers like you in our programs. Here are just a few of the places where you can get involved.
1. A day: BuildUP communities in Appalachia
Best for: Families with teenagers, businesses, churches, and organizations
Want to get involved with Christian Appalachian Project but don’t have time for a long-term commitment? This one-day housing blitz, held every fall, is a fantastic way to bond with your family or group while helping our housing program move forward with their many projects.
2. A week: Help someone get a roof over their head or a floor under their feet
Best for: Youth Groups, college organizations, and churches
Our alternative spring break programs and domestic mission group projects are a tangible way to make a difference in the lives of people living in substandard housing. Local organizations and churches can help with our kitchen crews to feed volunteers to keep them going on the worksites or sign up for a domestic mission trip in the fall.
3. Every month: Nourish the elderly
Best for: Individual community members, local churches and organizations
Join our food pantry and elderly services programs once a month as they coordinate the distribution of commodity boxes for the elderly. There are lots of other opportunities to help out in those programs if you find that you have more time to spare!
4. A Summer: Inspire a child
Best for: Cooks, nurses, art teachers, and college students.
Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) two summer camps in Eastern Kentucky exist to provide children from families in need with a safe, fun place to spend a week each summer playing, laughing, and learning. You can volunteer for a week as a nurse, a month or two as a counselor, or a year providing supplementary educational services in the local schools.
5. A year: Invest in a community
Best for: Volunteers of all ages looking grow spiritually while volunteering
By engaging with participants as a year-long volunteer you will help us provide services in housing, early childhood education, elderly services, family advocacy or our food pantry. With a year-long commitment, you may also qualify for an educational award. Take advantage of Christian Appalachian Project’s housing and board, or live at home and be given funds to offset your living expenses.
