Here at Christian Appalachian Project, we're thinking about warm weather, sunshine, and Summer Camp 2014. This year we look forward to welcoming hundreds of children to our two recreational camps serving children from low-income families. At camp, children and youth ages 6-16 enjoy activities such as swimming, canoeing, hiking, fishing, skits, talent nights, field games, camping, and more. At a price of $10/week, our camps provide an awesome summer experience that any family can afford.
Volunteers
Each summer, more than 60 volunteers travel to our camps from around the state and across the country to give their time and talents to some very special kids in need. We invite you to consider joining us this summer. We have a need for volunteers to serve in a variety of roles:
- Camp Counselors: If you are high energy and love the outdoors, we need you to be a hero this summer for kids in need.
- Lifeguards or Counselor/Lifeguards: We do a lot of swimming and other water activities, so we need lifeguards to keep our campers safe. If you are not currently certified but are interested in becoming a lifeguard, training is available.
- Medical personnel: We're looking for RNs, LPNs, and EMTs.
- Arts and crafts leaders: Help inspire campers' creativity by leading our arts and crafts activities.
- Floaters and office help: You don't have to be a camp counselor or nurse to a huge part of making camp a success. Volunteers are needed to answer phones, help process camper applications, and just lend a helping hand to whatever might be needed.
Benefits & Requirements of Summer Camp Volunteering
All camp volunteers receive room and board. Airport pickup is available in Lexington for Camp Andrew Jackson and in Huntington, West Virginia, for Camp Shawnee. You may also bring a car to camp. Travel costs are the responsibility of the volunteer.

"Camp is always a great place to spend my summer. I love not only getting to know all of the kids, but getting to know the other counselors. I feel like I grow a lot when I spend a summer at camp. It’s exhausting work and long hours, but totally worth it when you have a summer full of memories to look back on."--CAP Summer Camp Volunteer
