CAP welcomes seven new long-term volunteers

Christian Appalachian Project Volunteer Program welcomed seven new long-term volunteer last week at a Commissioning service at Mountain Community Fellowship in Paintsville, Kentucky. The Commissioning service was preceded by orientation, where the new volunteers did everything from meeting CAP's President and CEO and spending time in quiet reflection to attending workshops on cooking for community and leading devotions.

Several familiar faces among CAP’s 32 new long-term volunteers

Volunteering full-time for 9-12 months seems like a lot to ask of someone, and for many reading this story, it may seem impossible. Volunteering for a week with a group seems feasible, maybe even a few weeks in the summer, but a year?  “No, a year is a little too much,” you might say.

Remembering Steve Laudenslager

Steve Laudenslager (December 1, 1964-July 19, 2010)

Steve Laudenslager, a former CAP volunteer and employee, passed away in July after a sudden illness. He was 45.

Steve first came to CAP and the Jackson House as a long-term volunteer in 1998, serving in Housing and then later as a volunteer host for groups. He eventually became employed at CAP as a Volunteer Life Coordinator, overseeing volunteers in several houses.
